What This Policy Covers

This policy describes how Speak Your Book ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects the information you share with us when you use our website and platform. We built Speak Your Book on the principle that your material belongs to you — and that principle shapes every decision we make about your data.

If you have questions about anything here, please reach out to us at privacy@speakyourbook.co.

What We Collect

When you use Speak Your Book, we may collect the following:

Your name and email address, provided when you download our free guide or create an account.

Your written answers to discovery questions, which you type directly into the platform.

Your voice recordings, which you create voluntarily when you choose to answer questions by voice. These are processed to generate transcriptions.

Transcriptions of your recordings, which are AI-generated and reviewed by you before any use.

Your creative material, including the stories, ideas, frameworks, and expertise you share through the process.

Standard technical information, such as browser type, device, and pages visited, collected automatically to help us understand how the product is being used. This is non-identifying aggregate data.

How We Use Your Information

We use what you share with us only to provide the Speak Your Book service. Specifically:

To deliver and operate the platform, including saving your sessions, generating your Book Compass and Chapter Map, and making your material available to you across sessions.

To transcribe your voice recordings so you can review and edit them.

To send you the free guide and occasional email updates about Speak Your Book, if you opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.

To improve the product, using aggregate, anonymized usage data — never your personal content.

We do not use your recordings, stories, or written material to train AI models. Your content is not a training dataset. It is yours.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell your personal information. Ever.

We work with a small number of infrastructure providers — such as our hosting provider and transcription service — who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements. These providers are given only what they need to perform their function.

We may be required to disclose information in response to a valid legal request, such as a court order or subpoena. If that ever happened, we would notify you to the extent we are legally permitted to do so.

Beyond that, your material stays between you and us.

AI and Your Content

Speak Your Book uses AI tools to help you organize and develop your material — not to generate content on your behalf. Here is what that means in practice:

Your voice recordings are transcribed by an AI transcription service. The transcription is returned to you for review and approval before any further use.

Your material may be processed by a large language model to generate outputs such as your Book Compass, Chapter Map, and Book Directions. These outputs are always derived from what you provided and are presented to you for review.

Nothing enters your manuscript without your explicit approval.

Your content is not shared with AI providers for training purposes. We do not permit the third-party services we use to train on your data.

Your Rights and Control

You are always in control of your material. You can:

View, edit, or delete any answer, recording, or output at any time from within your account.

Export your material in readable formats.

Request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at privacy@speakyourbook.co. We will process the request within 30 days.

Opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any email we send, or by contacting us directly.

Data Security

We take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production systems and user data is restricted to authorized personnel with a legitimate need.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at privacy@speakyourbook.co.

Data Retention

We keep your account data and creative material for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward in case you return. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records by law.

Anonymous, aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be traced back to you.

Children's Privacy

Speak Your Book is designed for working professionals and is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a notice in the product. The date at the top of this page will always reflect when the policy was last updated.

Continuing to use Speak Your Book after a policy update means you accept the revised terms.
